Biography
Ashley Ouderkirk (she/her) is a freelance art writer, editor, artist advisor, and independent curator dividing her time between Queens and Los Angeles. She received her B.A. from Syracuse University and furthered her academic journey with an M.A. in Art History from CUNY Hunter College. Her work and passion centers around rethinking and expanding the relationship between art and audience, while always grounding her projects in an inclusive history of art.
In her recent endeavors, she curated impactful projects for prestigious platforms such as SPRING/BREAK, ChaShaMa, Art in General, and KUNSTRAUM LLC, where she served as the 2022-23 Curator-in-Residence. Her exhibitions have gained prominent recognition and discussion in reputable art platforms like Hyperallergic, Cultbytes, Arcade Project, Art Frankly, Art Spiel, and Friend of the Artist.
Ashley’s published exhibition reviews can be found on Art and Cake and ART[MEMO], two Los Angeles-focused contemporary art magazines, the latter of which she is now the editor. Additionally, she is the current editor for the hardcover publication, Friend of the Artist.
Philanthropically, Ashley serves on the board of Art in Residency, a non-profit exploring the potential of public art in Antelope Valley, CA.
